T-Land, also known locally as Besialu, is the signature surf break of Nembrala on Rote Island. One of Indonesia’s renowned long left-hand reef breaks, it can offer rides stretching for hundreds of metres across three sections — The Peak, The Pyramid and The Mountain.

Its combination of length, consistency and different sections makes T-Land suitable for a range of experienced surfers, with waves breaking from smaller days through to serious Indian Ocean swell. During Rote’s main surf season, southeast trade winds regularly create clean offshore conditions.

The Bommie is a short, playful right-hand reef break near T-Land in Nembrala, Rote Island. With a relatively straightforward take-off and deeper reef, it is a useful alternative when larger swells arrive or when conditions at other breaks become more demanding.

Fun rather than intimidating, The Bommie adds variety to the range of surf breaks along Rote’s western coastline.

Boa is one of Rote Island’s best-known right-hand reef breaks, located south of Nembrala. It is a fast, powerful wave with a sharp take-off and the potential for clean barrel sections when swell, tide and wind align.

Boa generally performs best around mid tide and in lighter winds, with glassy early-morning and late-afternoon sessions often producing the best conditions. It is a standout option for confident surfers seeking a more performance-driven wave on Rote.

Suckies, also known as Sucky Mamas, Peanuts or locally as Sakunamo, is a powerful right-hand reef break on Rote Island. Shorter and more intense than T-Land, it is known for fast walls and quality barrel sections.

It typically works best around mid to high tide and offers a more secluded surf experience near Nembrala. For surfers chasing punchy Indonesian reef breaks alongside Rote’s famous left-handers, Suckies is a standout wave.

Do'o is a hollow right-hand reef break beside an uninhabited island off the coast of Rote. It breaks over sharp, shallow coral and can produce fast, powerful sections when conditions align.

Best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers, Do'o offers a very different experience from the long walls of T-Land and can be an excellent alternative when wind or swell conditions shift around Nembrala.

Squillers is a fun, approachable surf break at Nembrala, Rote Island, with both left- and right-breaking waves. Breaking over shallow reef close to shore, it is one of the most accessible options for beginner surfers when conditions are suitable.

On larger swell days, Squillers can also provide intermediate surfers with a softer alternative to Rote’s more powerful reef breaks. Its forgiving nature makes it an important part of the surf landscape around Nembrala.
